| A most unusual device, the Gerber Radius features oversize plastic handles and fat, side-deploying blades and tools. The layout is unique among current multitool design. It is the first tool from a major manufacturer to utilize plastic instead of metal in a load bearing area. |
Jaws
The plier jaws on the Radius are spring loaded. They come equipped with fine serrations near the tips, a gripping area below that, and a wire cutter area near the pivot. A hard wire notch is included.
Somewhat unusual is the fact that the wire cutters are
anvil type, as opposed to the more common bypass type wire cutters on multitools.
Handles/Frame
The main basis for the design of the Radius is its handles. They are constructed primarily from plastic, with steel reinforcement in the plier pivot and blade pivot areas. No doubt in order to achieve the necessary strength, the handles themselves were made quite large. Soft rubber molded overlays give the tool a more comfortable grip.
Also unusual are the way the blades and tools unfold from the
sides of the handles. Note this does allow easy access to the blades, regardless of whether the tool is folded or unfolded.
- knife blade with thumb stud, 2.35" long (60mm)
- flat phillips screwdriver blade with wire stripper notch
- combination cap lifter/flathead screwdriver
- spring loaded scissors, with thumb stud
Locking Mechanism
All four of the blades and tools lock open. Lock release is accomplished by plastic slider switches on the backside of the handles.
